Iranian President wishes Jews a Happy Rosh Hashana

Sure. They wish them a ‘happy’ holiday while still persecuting them in their own nation. That’s a mighty good ‘olive branch’ to other religious beliefs.

Are they?

The environment is pretty hostile to other religions and they are not given the same rights as those that are Muslim. They have an official state religion over there and by the very nature of official state religions it is NOT going to be understanding of opposing faiths.

In short, they are:

Jews are persecuted in Iran?

How interesting!

As he builds the nuclear bomb to annihilate Israel, the Iranian President wishes them a Happy New Year!

What a friendly man! :)

This guy is a poker player par excellence...in his game of bluff.

Iran used to have a good country before 1979. The monarchy was very modern. But there’s many theories as to why it fell… perhaps outside influence. By the late 1970s Iran was competing to become one of the world powers and the other world powers. The Soviets, China and America probably didn’t want this to happen. But that’s just a theory. Oil was involved as well.

A Combination of outside influence and the western nations failing to stop the “Islamic” revolution led to where we are today. For example before 1979 Ruhallah Khomeni lived in France, but the French allowed him to speak out vehemently against the Iranian monarchy…. and then in early 1979 allowed the guy to fly back to Iran. In hindsight they probably should’ve never allowed both of these things.

Anyways there are still lots of people in Iran who want to bring back the monarchy and bring back the glory of the Persian empire. And there are still something like 20,000 Iranian Jews in Iran it’s one of the most populated Jewish countries outside of the west.

Their are Jews in the Iranian military. It’s a bit rare, but it’s similar to the rarity of their being Muslims in the Israeli army.

The regime of the Shah was not less oppressive than the current one. Savak imprisoned, tortured and killed many thousands of people.

Many Iranians would disagree with that. There had to be some heavy-handed measures by the monarchy after all when they are facing off against radicals like the clerics… what are they supposed to do? They can’t just allow those people to take over their country and force women to cover their hair, institute a harsh theocracy and things like that.

What they were supposed to do? Definitely not what they were doing. Because at the end they 'allowed' to take over the country, institute a theocracy etc.

I’m not saying the Iranian monarchy was a
Great example of a just country.. . But the idea that they were the bad guy should be challenged.

Most Iranians I have spoken with want a return to the era of the Shah. Even Christian Iranians like Patrick Bet David, who has millions of followers on YouTube agrees with this. Or at least they favor the time of the Shah compared to the post 1979 government.

I have the same view on Saddam Hussein and the bath party in Iraq. Almost All of the Iraqis I have spoken with preferred the Ba’ath party. Sure Saddam was not a Saint but Iraq was one of the wealthiest countries in the Middle East in the 70s and 80s…. They had a healthcare system that rivaled that in Europe.

Also keep in mind the west worked with people like the Shah and Saddam Hussain. So I think it’s quite hypocritical for them to then turn around and throw these people to the wolves. But that’s of course some people in the west ….others recognize that the situation is complex

But in both cases in Iraq and Iran, their leadership has had to deal with radical Muslims, who believe in extreme bigotry. So again, what is somebody supposed to do when they are dealing with those types of people??

If you had a situation in America where thousands of Christians wanted to take over the country and institute their own version of Christianity….. one that is extremely violent and oppressive and one can say against true Christianity…. Well, how would America react to that? And that my friend is what Iran had to deal with in 1979 and what Iraq had to deal with before 2003.

I would add Syria and Lybia to these countries. And I have to admit that strong leaders, or autocrats if you wish, were good enough in keeping radical Islamists at bay. Maybe it is somewhat naive to expect the Middle East countries to have Western-styled 'democracies'.

In Iran, it is no wonder that after more than 40 years of oppressive theocracy people want changes. Theocracy is a quite bad form of government, in any place.
