There were around 140 ships passing through the straights daily prior this debacle. Let's be generous and take it down to 100. Currently the number they are reportedly asking is 2 million a ship. That's significant.
And indeed who knows. Maybe the NATO allies who weren't informed prior the attack, who's population and national sovereignty have beem threatened by Trump and who have no obligation under the NATO charter to join a war that a member starts themselves will be willing to put boots on the ground, wich is what it'll take to "open the straight" , when the US isn't willing to as Trump's TACO indicates.
Personally I estimate the chance of that a bit worse than me sprouting wings.
