Singh said his death conviction would only spur more rapes and put more women at risk.

The gang rape transpired on Dec. 16, 2012 when Jyoti and a male friend boarded a public bus after watching a movie at a mall in New Delhi, CNN reported.
Jyoti was brutally gang raped on the back of the bus as it drove around for nearly an hour, according to CNN. Her male friend was also beaten and both of them were reportedly dumped on the street after the attacks.
Jyoti had such damage to her internal organs, abdomen, and genitals that she had to have organs removed and reportedly died from her injuries a couple weeks after the attack, CNN reported.
Singh defended his actions and those of the other men who gang raped Jyoti, saying the men "had a right" to teach women "a lesson."
