I am reminded of a quote, but can't recall where it originated - but it's apropos:
"Who are you going to believe? Me, or your lying eyes?"
In other words, people are often fooled into believing something that is easily disproven by observation.
It is "common knowledge" that if you have enough money you can gain political power. Try telling that to the people who ran the JEB campaign in New Hampshire this year. They had an arguably good candidate, an infinite amount of money, and got essentially no votes. On the other hand, Bernie Sanders is a preposterous candidate with - relatively speaking - no big money backers, and he is pummeling one of the most heavily financed candidates in American history.
And so it is with "income inequality." We are told that only the "One Percent" are succeeding in our society. How's that again? There are hundreds of cities (and smaller communities) where millions of Americans are thriving. Housing prices are going through the roof because THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE WHO CAN PAY THOSE PRICES! Luxury car sales are at unprecedented levels. Luxury vacations and vacation homes and RV's are selling like hotcakes. People are spending millions on HOBBIES! Elite colleges and universities are receiving record numbers of applications, most of them from people who will be primarily paying the tuitions (and extensive other costs) with their own resources.
This is not "one percent," but rather a large portion of the population that has substantial income, significant assets, and tremendous resources.
In fact, times are very good for people who work hard, make sound choices in their lives, play by The Rules, and take advantage of the resources that are available. Although, of course, there are no guarantees and setbacks are always a possibility.
But if you choose to drop out of school before finishing, fail to learn a trade, have kids outside marriage, major in "Ethnic Studies," or refuse to take decisive action to find the best job available for someone of your resources, then life can be very tough.
The Left tries to sell the narrative that the very EXISTENCE of inequality is PROOF of the presence of EVIL, which must be RECTIFIED by a "nanny state" government. It is total nonsense, but apparently a lot of people are buying it. Unless there is some indication that a particular wealthy person has illegally victimized someone, then their inequality is not a matter for government concern. It is probably the result of natural and normal events of life.
