Once the citizenry is successfully disarmed, the authoritarian government can then implement any draconian laws they want, as the citizenry can do no more than gather in numbers and demand change. The authoritarian government response is always the same, arrest the leaders and use force to push people off the streets. If the large protests continue, the military is brought in, and lethal force is applied to the crowds. Death squads round up opposition and the opposition disappears.

An upstate NY shop will take handguns in on trade but he won't sell them there due to their messed-up gun laws. Once he gets a couple dozen my FFL buys them from him.
