In other words the supreme leader is dead

This is a huge blow to the left. The Ayatollah was their hero.

Democrats probably held another one of their prayer vigils for the guy. Poor Ayatollah, may be rest in peace and find his 72 9-year old virgins with Allah.

Looks like all Trump has to do is wait this one out

Kinda looks that way. So long as we shut down all ships into and out of Iran, and maybe blow up one more bridge, and:
  1. Iran loses about 90% of its income to fund its economy.
  2. Iran cannot import any gas to fuel their vehicles. Iran refines a small amount of gas, but it is needed to pump into their wells to keep oil flowing.
  3. Without export, soon, Iran runs out of storage and must shut down their oil wells.

I wonder if that's what he's thinking...

Who, Trump? He better be because those are the facts. Iran's economy DEPENDS on exports via the Persian Gulf, and without that and its imports, losing nearly all of its income funding the military, loses the import gasoline supply it needs to fuel its vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.) as what little they actually refine internally is all needed for and used for the pumping of crude out of the ground.

And without shipping their oil, they soon run out of places to keep storing it so must shut down their oil wells from pumping up anymore, and from what I understand, once you shut down a well, they are not the simplest things to get back up running again (maybe you lose priming of the pumps or something).

And my understanding is that their next best avenue for importing and exporting is via one lone railway line out of the country and if we blow up one bridge, that too is useless.

And then the ceasefire runs out tomorrow, which is around 8PM tonight EST by my estimation. So at this point, I have to believe things inside the Iran government must be rather terse now, with two factions growing between the hardcore never give up IRGC ready to fight to the death, and more moderate voices looking to save something of the country.

The next few days should be interesting.
