Yeah, that's been a fascinating part of this disaster.

The list of parallels with the 30's just continues to grow, but this is one glaringly different quality. The other strongman authoritarians were ideological and at least relatively intelligent. Mussolini could be a clown in his public speeches but was a serious and focused man otherwise.

Maybe the most bizarre thing about the second impeachment was McConnell voting to acquit, and then speaking from the floor of the senate saying trump was guilty.
