A lot of guys from the South have traveled to NJ and NY to help repair the storm damage. They make a lot of money, and deserve to, since they earn the market rate. Imagine if such totalitarians as Bloomberg and Christie enforced anti-gouging laws here, too? Very few would travel such distances from their families to labor for long hours, and live and work under horrific conditions, for their normal wages. Get it, you fascist midgets? Meanwhile, to help legitimize the military junta, fuel is being delivered by the army. Or so we are told. Of course, if gasoline could be sold at the market price, which is far higher than a week ago, there would be no shortage. Every entrepreneurial guy with a tanker truck, or a fleet of them, would be flooding the area with exactly what the people need.

How many times do price controls have to be shown to be failures before governments stop trying to use them?

It will only stop when most people come to the conclusion that price controls do not have the intended consequences. Since most people are stupid, the answer to your questions is infinity.

You can count on liberals operating on emotion and usually on the verge of hysteria but I haven't heard of any price gouging in the disaster area. There is a shortage of goods and services but it seems that the hysterical liberal mind prefers to "imagine" the worst about people rather than helping them.

I think it's interesting that Katrina effected a release from the SPR.
Here we have refined products being released into the market. FOR FREEEEEEEEEE!

It's a good thing.

This is not rocket science. The purpose is not 'price', it is 'control'.

That would be because that champion of liberalism Chris Christie has threatened people not to raise their prices, or he'll charge them with price gouging.

Christie's price controls, obviously.

Christie is a pragmatic thick skinned (no pun intended) straight talking politician. I would be proud to vote for him no matter what party he represented. Bloomie, however, is an elitist RINO. The stupid plan to hold a marathon in Central Park while people are starving in Staten Island is an indication that he is so far out of touch with reality that he no longer has the trust of the people he claims to represent.

So price controls are just being "pragmatic?" I'd say it's just dumb policy from a statist stooge who thinks he has the right to tell people what they can charge for their own goods and services.

I'd say price controls were not only pragmatic but logical and legal as long as the crisis is still considered an emergency. It is refreshing to see competent leadership in New Jersey while NY Gov. Cuomo hides in Albany and Bloomie tries to organize a freaking marathon run in Central Park. Notice that the junkie former community activist gravitated to the governor who showed the most leadership while Andy waited in vain for a visit.

So causing shortages was "logical" in your mind?

The government will never stop using price controls, which is why there will always be a grey market.

There wouldn't be any shortages if price gouging was going on.

It seems that way, doesn't it?

You almost gotta laugh. The post doesn't make much sense other than the possibility that the sissie hysterical left is worried about Christie's strong leadership compared to Hussein's lack of anything of substance.

What if we paint all the grey markets a different color? Will there then still always be a grey market?
