.... and seriously feel like pulling my hair out. 😖

So I updated my laptop to the newest OS (Sequoia 15.01) and now I can no longer use Final Cut Pro (my video editing program) because it says it needs to be updated. It's not useable at all until it gets updated, I can't even open it. I always updated it no problem, for years, but now when I try to update it, it's saying it was purchased under a different Apple ID.

Well I don't remember my old Apple ID, but I figured maybe it was my main email that I've had for years. So I tried logging in to that old Apple ID, and of course I don't know the password. I did the "forgot password" thing and it wants to send me a verification code to a phone number I had probably 10 years ago, in Baja! Not only do I no longer have access to that phone, I don't remember the number...My only clue is the last 2 digits. But I need to find that old number, because according to Apple Customer Service (who I was on the phone with for over an hour) if I can find that old number, they can try to do an account recovery. Apart from that, they pretty much said I'm screwed.

I've been searching through old emails, from years ago, to try to find that old number. But I've had so many different phone numbers since then, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I'm not sure what else to do.

All I really want to do is use Final Cut Pro. 😓 And I definitely don't want to re-purchase it, because I'm not sure but I get the feeling they're doing the "subscription" thing now, instead of a one-time purchase like before. And there's no way I'm going to pay them monthly for a program I already have...it just needs to be updated!

If you read this far, thanks for listening to this rant. Any ideas are welcome.

If this is in the wrong section, then sorry.

I understand your problem. I took to keeping a note book of I.D.s and passwords and put it my safe lockbox.

That's a really good idea. I used to have something like that... years ago. In fact, I might still have it somewhere, but the problem is I've moved a number of times in the last couple decades, and each time I've moved, I whittled down my things. I think I do still have a big container with old papers and stuff like that, so I'll look there. Thanks Ig. :)

As a 'libertarian', you should just accept the right of the video software corporation to charge you subscriptions for the rest of your life.

In any case, it's flat fee, and that pays for future upgrades and updates.

$299.00.

For the deadbeats and free market haters:

Can you get DaVinci Resolve for free?

The free version of DaVinci Resolve is packed with more features than most paid software applications!

I already purchased it, and it wasn't cheap. You're saying I should accept that they want to do BOTH that initial "one-time" charge, and now a monthly subscription? If that's the case, forget it. I love that program, but I don't want to do that just on principle.

I don't know... pardon my ignorance on this, but how would I even do that? Thanks.
Many times there is an option to go back, but I'm not an apple user. Maybe someone else here is and can offer some advice if that initial link doesn't do it.

You didn't even bother to check, so so much for 'principle'.

I'm almost positive there is. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I had Time Machine set up (creating backups)... so if I didn't, I probably wouldn't be able to, but I'm hoping to just find that old phone number so they try to recover that old account.

Bother to check what? If it is now a subscription? Why would I do that when I refuse to do ANY subscription for a program that should be a one-time purchase? I'm not interested in the subscription thing. No need to be snarky. 😝

There is no subscription thing.

It looks like you added on to your earlier post after I read it, so I didn't see that at first. But anyway... If worse comes to worst, I might have to do that (re-buy FCP) but of course I'd rather not, lol. Thanks

I have no idea but I can tell you that microsoft has gotten just as bad. I thought I had deleted every trace of microsoft office from one of my computers when I stopped subscribing a few years ago. When I did a download of Word recently, all that crap resurrected with a vengeance and was keeping me from being able to activate it because I no longer had the office subscription. It took me several hours over three days to finally get it in correctly. It kept asking for my PIN for some microsoft app I had never even heard of before and since I only use a handful of PINs I tried guessing and then it would lock me out for 12 hours at a pop until I finally found the one they wanted.

I am not familiar with your software or its age, but I had a similar experience with photoshop. I updated it religiously and it lasted for twenty years. After that, Adobe quit supporting it, so it is a nice box with a cd in it now. Criminal.

Oh man. That sounds like it was a PITA. I'm glad you ended up finding the PIN, even though it took days. :)

Exactly! I too used Photoshop for years, but not anymore since it's now a monthly subscription. I miss owning Photoshop (and at one time I had Paint Shop Pro)....Oh, and Flash. Way back in the day I made an entire website using Flash. Oh gosh, the early days of the internet were awesome.

Welcome to the game, BC. Programmers keep changing code causing incompatibility problems because, well, that is how they force you to keep spending money. In actuality, there is no good reason why any of these programs cannot work with newer ones except that they don't want them to.

BTW, in order to just order groceries off of my grocer's website now takes passing more security walls than to get into my bank account. I hate to say this, but the government really needs to get involved in regulating this bullshit, but keep in mind that our government still uses MSDOS to do your taxes because Congress doesn't want to spend the money to buy them newer computers.
