The mom, who asked to remain anonymous, has chosen to opt her children out of the parts of updated sex ed curriculum she and her husband found alarming, but worried other parents in the state may be unaware of what is being taught.

"All I’m asking for is transparency and accountability," she said, adding she hopes other parents realize there are ways to opt out.

"I had to send quite a few emails and figure out who is in charge and teaching what to get to this point," she said, adding that it is "a lot of work for most parents."

The superintendent of the Berkeley Heights school district, Dr. Melissa Varley, told Fox News Digital the district "presented the new PE/Health Curriculum on August 11th at the Public Board meeting. The Assistant Superintendent and PE/Health Supervisor explained in detail the Opt Out Process available to all parents."

"In addition, all parents are welcome to personally review the curriculum guides and teaching materials," she added.

The default position is what's wrong, forcing the parents to opt out. It shouldn't be in public schools. Anal sex is perversion. It has no place in public schools.

The Illinois Senate has passed a measure that would help to prevent the practice of banning books, which Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias says is in response to efforts in other states to restrict access to reading materials for political and personal reasons.

HB 2789 had previously passed the House earlier this year, and will now head to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s desk for signature, according to a press release from Giannoulias’ office.

“The concept of banning books contradicts the very essence of what our country stands for,” Giannoulias said in a statement. “It also defies what education is all about: teaching our children to think for themselves.”

The terms of the bill authorize the secretary of state’s office to restrict funding from libraries that don’t adhere to the American Library Association’s Bill of Rights, according to the press release, which says that reading materials should not be removed or restricted because of partisan or personal reasons.
