He wrote that after losing 5 children, and faced ruin after the Chicago fire destroyed his properties. On a ship to England the captain called for him to join him and was told that that is the spot that his 4 little girls drown when their ship sank.
Praise Jesus Christ in the sunshine and the rain...

My guess from the title was the writer of What a Friend We Have in Jesus which I was aware of.

Joseph Scriven was born in Ireland in 1819. He was educated and received a degree from Trinity College in Dublin and became a teacher. With plans to settle down and soon to marry, life was good for Joseph. Unfortunately, the day before his wedding, his future wife drowned.

The grief was more than he could bear, so Joseph moved to Canada to start over. There, he met and fell in love again, with Eliza Rice, and planned to be married, again. It is unthinkable that you could lose so much in one young lifetime but weeks before they were to be wed, Eliza became sick and died from her illness. Joseph was only 25.

It was Horatio Spafford, whose family was decimated. He was a lawyer and businessman prior to the Chicago fire. His wife survived the ship wreck, and he was on his way to get her when the Captain pointed out the location where his daughters drowned.

How do you survive losing 5 little ones? I can't fathom that. There would be nothing left of me if I had to bury 5 children. Most people blame God when bad things happen. These two men rushed to Him for comfort. And Christ gave it to them. I love that degree of faith.

Not really. They thank God for good fortune, they don't blame God for bad fortune.

For example, in interviews after the game, it's common to hear a football player thank God after winning the big game. But you never her them say something like "well, we would have won the game if God didn't make me fumble the ball!"

Thanks for sharing that. I love it!

This is a song we sang in the Sabbath keeping church I attended. I didn't know the origin. Thanks
