Have you read Trump's 7 point plan for fighting for free trade. Point 4 says, "Tell NAFTA partners that we intend to immediately renegotiate the terms of that agreement to get a better deal for our workers. If they don’t agree to a renegotiation, we will submit notice that the U.S. intends to withdraw from the deal."

What Trump is not telling you is that the NAFTA agreement provides for changes. Of course Mexico and Canada will agree because it's part of the treaty so there would be no need to cancel the agreement in order to bring the parties to the table. The question is what would happens next. Trade treaties are complex agreements that involve a lot of people including congress, lobbying groups, and various US agencies. NAFTA took about 7 years from negotiations to approval by congress.

Although Trump could set aside NAFTA, he would need congressional approval to enact changes needed to carry on trade without NAFTA otherwise there would a major disruptions in the economy.

In short, Trump is woefully ignorant when it comes to foreign trade. In fact, his whole trade policy is just plain silly designed to show voters what a powerful leader he will be. However, when it comes to trade treaties like most international agreements, it is not bluster and threats that rule the day but rather statesmanship, a good understanding of international politics, and the support of allies both national and international.
