I'm not a fan of universal healthcare (which is way different from single payer) but I would compromise on it, as long as we totally freed up the healthcare markets...like Switzerland. Their system is, you need to have insurance just like if you were to drive a car in America, but their markets are much much more freer than ours are. So it's not only very high quality, cutting edge medicine, where you are very much in charge of your own care (that's comes very timely and efficiently) however YOU want it, but it's also very affordable. Notice how many car insurance commercials are all around our tv, telling us how much we can save nationally, why is it we don't see that for health insurance? Did you ever wonder that? Healthcare is one of the most regulated industries in America, right up there with energy, air travel, cable/internet. And notice how all those industries are very expensive, and no one in America likes them very much, but we can't say shit because we still need it. Becuase they have us cornered, nobody else can break into those markets offering better prices or services, they are cash cows, and they want to keep it that way.
