Red Cross prefers financial donations rather than goods for disasters.
Because they can embezzle it. They actually have to distribute food to people who need it.
What do you think those little red and white trucks (ERV's) are doing in your neighborhood? Collecting blankets? They're delivering food. Food bought by the Red Cross and cooked by mostly Southern Baptist and Salvation Army mobile kitchens. It's a VERY expensive operation, one which requires millions of dollars.
That's why it's dollars they need, not canned goods or other stuff which has to be collected, sorted, inspected, transported and distributed. It's a HUGE waste of time and resources which the victims cannot tolerate and may or may not meet their immediate needs.
If you want to help, give money or your time. If you don't feel comfortable donating to the Red Cross, there are others who need the money too. For instance, the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief efforts are funded totally by donations and every single penny is spent on disaster relief. Nothing is taken out for salaries, fund raising, expenses or anything else. It ALL goes to fund disaster relief. If you'd like to donate, you can do so here:

Just FYI, the Baptist's are marshaling resources to meet the needs of storm victims with food, chainsaw help, mudding out flooded homes, child care and water purification as we speak. Teams are flooding into the area from all over the country and that costs money...a lot of it. Just our Oklahoma Baptist's are sending 2 feeding units, 2 chainsaw crews, a mud-out crew, a child care unit and a shower unit to the NE today. More than 100 volunteers, who do NOT get paid, and more than a dozen vehicles, including 2 18 wheeler's. Just the cost of fuel alone will run into multiple thousands of dollars.
Instead of bitching and trying to make political hay off others sufferings, how about pitching in to get the job done?
