ICE Arrests Old Orchard Beach Police Officer from Jamaica for Overstaying Visa

Out of 11 million people who are in the U.S. "illegally":

  • 4 millions are Mexicans (nearly 40 % of the total number of "unauthorized migrants")
  • 1.9 million are from El Salvador + Guatemala + Honduras (18 % of the total number of "unauthorized migrants")
  • 270,000 are from Venezuela
  • 725,000 are from India
  • Only 275,000 are from Europe or Canada COMBINED (meaning several dozens of countries; it's about 2 % of the total number of "unauthorized migrants")

How did he get through the hiring process? The town's leaders have some explaining to do.

An attempted firearms purchase led to the arrest of a Jamaican citizen who the town of Old Orchard Beach had hired as a police officer, FOX News reported on Monday afternoon.

Jon Luke Evans entered the U.S. legally in September 2023, but overstayed his visa, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) stated. He was due to return top Jamaica on October 1 of that year but never boarded his flight home.

The Maine Wire contacted the Old Orchard Beach Police Department seeking information about when Evans was hired, the status of his employment and what type of vetting the department employs in its hiring process, but it did not immediately respond.

Evans was reportedly flagged by ICE when he applied tried to buy a gun for use on his job as a policeman, FOX’s Bill Melugin wrote."

What community large enough to have a Police Dept. does not furnish that police officer with proper firearms to use? I had heard that Houston requires its LEOs to buy their own stuff, but then Houston is probably the most Democrat controlled 'woke' city in Texas and hates LEOs as a matter of principle.

At any rate, anybody who is in the country illegally and especially an 'illegal' LEO so unfamiliar with Florida law re Photo ID and such that he would try to buy a gun almost certainly deserves to be deported.

The Police Chief either as CYA or maybe validly claims the guy was legal and they received confirmation from Immigration before he was hired. If he is legit, he and/or the police dept. will be able to prove that. If they're just in CYA mode, the guy is gone and should be.

Many, if not most, smaller departments require you to buy your own Service Weapon. But will have guidelines.

Can't be carrying a Desert Eagle around as your Service Weapon.

You could be right. Most internet links say almost all police departments furnish their officers with such equipment but I don't pretend to have any special knowledge about that. I'm pretty sure all LEOs in all capacities here in New Mexico are issued standard firearms but wouldn't stake my life on that. We are a pretty poor state among states.

(Most departments do require officers to buy their own uniforms though and many provide an allotment for officers to use to buy their stuff with the stuff they are allowed to use it for standardized.)

Weird isn’t it. It’s almost like white people commit crimes far less than browns.

Or they typically have an easier time staying in the country legally because the State Dept doesn't have them on a list of shithole countries.

He will be able to go to an immigration court and get reinstated. Happens all the time with legal immigrants who overstay.
