I don't think you should have to have links as long as you make an argument. Why should a topic within the topic board be closed? They closed my womb thread a few days ago because I didn't have links but I made a solid argument for my side and further into the thread I had at least 4-5 links in the replies.

Respectfuly, if links were not required when starting a new thread topic that is presented as fact based, the readers of your opening post would ask you the obvious, which would be "Where are your facts to support your topic?"

Therefore, that is why links are required when a thread is started and the opening post is presented as a "fact".

If you start a thread that is framed as an open ended question or a solicitation of general opinions, that is different.

The board is full of anti-government people that want to abolish most of it. I make a post supporting science, infrastructure or education and my post is directed to the flame zone.

Many are, yes, and they are very foolish.

They don't understand how the modern world works.

The rules are very clear on thread starts. If you make statements of fact in an opening post, you are required to post a link to the source. That isn't asking too much.

Also the flame zone isn't a free for all. I got suspended for like half a year for talking about sex a few years ago. It isn't fair. It is invisible to kids and is for adults and is generally thought of as free for all. It is misleading.

There are a few rules that still apply to the basement area. If you read the rules, you'd know that.
