“When your country strips you of rights and protections, it tells you that it no longer recognizes you. Other times, you realize that you no longer recognize your country. People leave; families rupture along political lines; friendships shatter; people and institutions that used to be widely admired are vilified, and yesterday’s villains are sainted; familiar faces disappear from the public sphere; an aggressive conformity takes hold; the material conditions of life change.

The indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show signaled just such a shift in landscape. The news tells us that we are moving from one country to a different, autocratic one. The television shows us: This country looks different, sounds different and feels different. A familiar face and a familiar voice vanish. Some people turned on their televisions on Friday night to see a memorial to Charlie Kirk when they expected to see a comedian welcoming his next guest.

What unites the many actions of the Trump administration, from the sledgehammer it has taken to government programs to the demonstrative cruelty it has built into immigration raids, is that they transform the daily physical, economic and psychic experience of life. President Trump is remaking the country in his image: crude, harsh, gratuitously mean. The ongoing attack on civil society, which his administration plans to intensify in the name of Charlie Kirk, is a part of this program. Civil society makes life more livable. The administration’s message is that the work of civil society no longer belongs in this country.”

Trump’s America is one of cruelty and hate, of division and conflict, an America we no longer recognize.

You friggin' morons have taken projection far beyond any semblance of veracity. This horrendous political environment is your fault, be an adult and take responsibility for your actions.

OHH the horror! One guy got suspended from his job...another brutally got gunned down in his prime, in front of his family.... and you think the commedian is the victim here.

Maybe when people turn on their TV expecting to see a comedian and all they see is someone promoting politics instead, the ratings drop. Yes there is a reason the network did what they did and it wasnt the administration.

This country started becoming a stranger during the Carter administration. The responsibility belongs to crooked Democrats and neocons. Greed has transformed us, but now Trumpy has us headed in the right direction.

When I look at this country, I see a stranger. I see schools punishing parents who object to grown men showering with 11 year old girls. I see cities putting the twisted faces of drag queens in front,of 3 year olds' story hour. Horrifying I see a country so bereft of morals it creates the nest used by muslims to kill Americans, to kill Jews and Christians and justify it. Oh and free Palestine.

No, I don't recognize this country any more. This is the country that Americans would fight when America was a better nation.

California won’t let me get a suppressor or build an SBR or take my Two Cycle Outboard motor engined Boat on Tahoe

Those aren’t rights in the scheme of things. That is a state regulating (in this case over regulation) trade.

If these restrictions are overly onerous, there are 49 other states from which to choose.

You almost have to scratch your head that the crazy TDS left whines about the Constitution after four years of old Joe and his doctor closing down the entire American system during Covid. I mean WTF is wrong with these people?
