What the sheriff is hoping is that you obey the supreme law of our land, the US Constitution which only allows, "people to peacefully assemble." Local/state laws can ban protests that block traffic and business from conducting lawful practices. Some states also require that if a large assembly of people is to occur, that they obtain a permit to do so and that a suitable location be established to voice their concerns.

In Florida anyone can run a protesters over.

I don't go where I know there will be civil unrest. But if I inadvertently drive up to a group of rioters, and there was no way to retreat, there is no way I would stop and be dragged out of my car, beaten or worse. If somebody got hurt with me driving through so be it.
