There were other ongoing investigations at the time, until Trump told the FBI to stop investigating. Trump was never going to release those files, any more than he was going to release his tax returns. It was just an election ploy.

I can understand your pessimism, but I don't think things will unfold that way. I think Trump will be fine and the midterms will be a dud for the dumocraps. But, I think the country will go back to uniparty pro-establishment politics as soon as Trump is gone. The riches of the DC swamp are too much to ignore. To fully exploit the swamp both parties will have to bury the hatchet and then we are back to Clinton/Bush/Obama era politics where the swamp monsters get extremely rich and the people foot the bill.

The problem for the Administration is that they failed to redact the names and personal information of the victims, but redacted the names of the rich and powerful men that Epstein corresponded with in regards to the victims, the parties, and other activities on the Island. i.e. Elon Musk's desire to come to the island for the "wildest" party.

Or all of those Republicans who claimed to have cut off all contact with Epstein after his first arrest, but then were found to have visited the Island and socialized with Epstein right up until he was arrested for the SECOND time, by which point everyone in the world knew who and what Epstein was.

Those are the names being redacted. Even the original FBI investigation was centred around Maxwell and the other women who helped Epstein recruit his victims, not the rich and powerful men who abused them.

Why isn't Congress calling the victims as witnesses???? Why aren't they calling the prosecutors who worked on the Epstein and Maxwell cases????
