Well, as age and time goes by, swallowing food can get tricky. On Friday 28 November, everything got stuck. Tried 4 to 5 times to get things unblocked but that liquid came back out.

At work, I hang my drill, impact wrench etc.. off my work trousers. I was noticing I had to tighten my belt and it was still digging in. My lads asked for Xmas ideas and one was Makita braces to take the pressure off my waist.

But to cut a long story short, I went to A&E at the hospital because I thought my windpipe was doomed. Had bloods taken and an ECG. Everything was clear. Things in my windpipe dissolved and after 4 hours, got back home

Total bill, £0.00. the doctor suggests I see my registered doctor for a possible endoscopy. All symptoms are leading to a hiatus hernia.

So smaller bites, more chewing, and more liquid is working out fine. Cameras can be uncomfortable, so I'll won't bother with that.

So Makita braces, lose a few pounds, and manage how I eat/drink.

How much would the above cost in the US? To the nearest thousand.

What tax goes to the NHS (on average) is half of your insurance costs (on average). And you would be lucky your insurance covers much.

I pay less for my insurance than your healthcare tax. And my benefits are good. My company is awesome.

Your company is footing the bill, hence the word average. I don't need a company to foot the bill. That's the difference between great healthcare and America's.

Take Pepcid AC before meals.

The cost varies. If you are poor because you refuse to get a job, it’s free.

If you are middle class and self-sufficient, and stuck with Obamacare, it could be as high as $6,000

We do those under general anesthesia. Zero discomfort. Usually a half hour to 45-minute nap. I have had about 6 or 7 in my lifetime. Wife gets hers in February next year. They suspect she may have a hiatal hernia also. The first few cost us nothing, because I was past the out-of-pocket maximum we paid every year of $3000. My last 3 cost me nothing because I have veteran's coverage through the VA. They placed and removed stents in my bile duct to my intestines.

Only if you ignore how much of your taxes goes for universal healthcare.

I'm going on Medicare in Feb and I have supplemental insurance that will cost $108 USD per month. So, about $1,300 USD per year. How's your tax bill?

And because we aren't socialized medicine, I never have to wait. Good luck if you get cancer.

Are you suggesting that when the UK switched to universal health care that taxes DIDN"T go up? I think we both know better.

You are have made the argument that your healthcare costs are zero which is incorrect. In the US we don't have universal healthcare but we do have medicare for the elderly. We pay a medicare tax of 2.9% when we are working. When we retire, we pay nothing other than a low monthly premium.

Do you know what the tax rate is for your universal healthcare? It's about 4.5% of your income.

Your healthcare isn't free. No ones is.

Actually, he has a real job, doing real work. Do you?

Or maybe I should ask if you ever did.
Spending all day posting posting from work on USMB isn't a real job. It's stealing.

I'm retired. 38 years as an oil and gas engineer. I play golf 6 days a week and turned down 250 $/hr to stay retired. I never have to work again and will probably pay more taxes in retirement than you make. How about you? Posting from work?
