That's not the proper way. Nor hot water.

Use the bulb made for it and ear oil. Some use peroxide.

The wax serves a protective purpose but in some individuals it can get out of hand.

It is right up there with nose hair.

He had to even switch instruments to get the gunk out and charged me extra money

Use debrox ear gtts for 5 days or so to soften the wax up, then gently flush your ears out with warm tap water ( you can use one of those blue bulb things used on babies to remove boogers)

I have done it all of my life and have never had a problem. When my female doctor checks my prostate and whispers in my ear at the same time. I can hear her crystal clear.
So yeah, no problems.

The problem is that some people go crazy and stick the q-tip too far and perforate their ear drum.

Just don’t go too far and it’s fine
