I broke down and got Civilization V

I haven't yet played Civ, still spend a lot of free time on Hearts of Iron 2 and 3 respectively.

Civ iv offered multiplayer.

Civ V is big on multiplayer.

Don't think I am going to go that route. But it is an option I just can't help but think multiplayer would be horribly slow.

How come? Is it any different than single player? I just pictured it as same, but one of other civs is the other guy. Always thought it would be interesting if you didn't know which one, either.
