Well a dollar then is equal to $11.12 now.

The average hourly wage was $1.00 an hour.....It was a big deal to get a .10 cent an hour raise.

A man had to work better than a (after taxes) week to afford that $40.00 M1903 in 1957.

LOL....You sure as hell won't buy a M1903 for $440 now though, more like $1200.00.

Back then, you could buy a 3-bedroom, 2-bath house in the suburbs with a nice backyard for $15,000, a few miles outside Washington, DC
parents got a 4 bedroom, 2 bath with full basement for that price in 59

My parents got a 4 bedroom, 3 bedroom 2800 square foot house, two-car garage, 1/2 acre lot, for $40,000 in 1969.

But let’s not forget the flip side of the equation: the salaries. Back then, $15,000 was an upper-middle class salary.
