How corrupt is America? Everyone? About half? A small percentage?

Try selling office equipment to government school systems. A company I worked for dealt with 24 different counties in 5 different states & kick-backs are the norm. Department heads made sure the departments spent their entire budget to prevent receiving budget cuts while getting maximum kick-backs from their vendors.

As an independent, I was hoping this thread would not follow partisan lines. Need you be reminded of the Halliburton non-competitive contract set up by Dick Cheney. We are talking about corrupt people, Government and private sector. What percentage do you think are corrupt?

Lest you forget the non-compete contracts to the same company by the president directly before Bush and Cheney as well...

When you look at the size of our economy, the amount of money being spent and the amount of ovesight, I think it is amazing that we are not more corrupt than we are.

What do you define as corrupt?

Is making money even if your client loses deemed as corrupt? Is an attorney who gets paid for his services considered corrupt if he loses the case for his client? Is a doctor corrupt when he is paid to do all he can to save a patient and the patient dies?

Is one corrupt when they sign a contract saying they agree to the terms of the contract even though they did not read it?

Is one corrupt when they intentionally mis state their income on a mortgage or credit application?

As I see it, most in the US are not corrupt. Many are greedy and make foolish decisions dictated by their greed. But they are not corrupt.

Yep. Beleive it or not, that is directly related to our free market economy. It is our fear of LOSING business that keeps our greed in check. When greed takes over, invariably, you will fail.

Send a message that if you fail, you will be saved, you will see greed take over more often.

I agree. The amount of media coverage at all levels, whistleblowers, and the ability of investigators to trace almost every transaction keeps rampant corruption in check

For comparison,if you look at our public officials, they may be getting a little on the side and taking care of their cronys. What you don't see is people becoming megawealthy based on their political office like in Venezuela, Africa or puppet dictatorships

I take it you are talking about me, I am the only one stating that I am independent. Yes, I was a supporter of Obamacare health care. But, I am not pleased every aspect of the bill. I can not think of another issue where I am in strong agreement with the President.

You know I saw the daughter of President Eisenhower interviewed recently, and the topic of discussion was President Barack Obama as a moderate Republican based on 1950-60s politics. I think it is probably true as upset as the liberals in the Democratic Party appear to be upset with the President.

You know it is accusations like yours that push independent voters away from the Republican Party. My family covers everything from conservative to liberal, and the conservatives are not rude, but rational. I do take some conservatives seriously, but the trend in America is to the left, and it is the Republicans who got government dollars into the banks. Conservative Republicans will be blamed by American history for introducing America to socialism. President Barack Obama will be viewed as the voice of reason who fought to save the free enterprise system. He who laughs last, laughs best.

I really don't feel the need to have someone clarify my words, I can do that myself. I am upset over corruption, ANY CORRUPTION - Government, private sector, or even the YMCA.

As a ANOTHER ISSUE, the attacks upon me as an independent voter by the right - conservatives, republicans, teabaggers, etc.....are unjustified. The Dems are not attacking my perspective, and I have only supported them on one issue. This is the third time I have offered to name Republicans that I think have made a real contribution to this nation, and no one seems interested.

And, I know why. If one of those names happens to be "Reagan" your entire arguement goes down the drain - doesn't it Avatar?
