You can vote for who ever you choice, if you don't like who is running in the major party's you can vote for smaller party's & make them bigger,.or just write in your own name.So not understanding the intent of your OP, PLEASE EXPLAIN?

Most people either vote blue or red. Small % votes for 3rd party candidates. So why would the Democrats trot out a socialist weirdo? Explained sufficiently?

Honestly, the Dems know they are going to lose. So why not put the most radical one out there, let him get trounced, then afterwards claim he didn’t really represent the Democrat Party.
