Polls show that consistently the two greatest issues on peoples' minds are corruption and jobs. The first is not even addressed, the second is only given lip service.
whenever I talk to Amerivans the one thing that comes up in politics is corruption. You realize that it is 90% of the problems, and every country has their own type.
And everyone agrees that the system is incredibly corrupt. Politicians get people to virulently disagree about gun control and other issues, but when you ask people what they actually think 90% say they favor background checks. When you use code words like "welfare" people don't support government assistance, but when you ask should mothers with children be given support the answer is a resounding yes.
When you poll on actual issues such as a living wage, assistance for the working poor, improving environmental conditions, getting rid of money in politics there is widespread agreement among regular people, but messages are so often obfuscated that the actual will of the people is rarely reflected in public policy.
How can we overcome endemic corruption in order to get the American Democracy to reflect the actual will of the people?

The problem in the US isn't illegal corruption, it's legal corruption. When laws are written to bend the rules in the name of money.
Or as a famous American mobster (forgot which one) said on his death bed, "If I could do it all over again, I'd do it legally." In this country, you don't have to break the law to get rich stealing.

Agreed. Corruption hand sent its roots deep down in human collective being. People to get rid of corruption is like bees get rid of honey.

Simple ...prosecute the assholes.
Simple. Term limits.
Freshman congressmen are terribly naive and probably easier and cheaper to buy off. The Mr. Smith goes to Washington myth of new congressmen being honest and idealistic and would bravely stand against the establishment is clearly wrong. We have had a lot of newbs in the last few years and what have they done other than trample each other in a mad rush to the money trough?

It's also important for you republicans to note that a congressman who would not get cozy with the big money and sell themselves to the highest bidder will probably be an avowed socialist. Republicans demand their congressmen be a big money, big business suck-up. I wonder how you guys think anyone buys your gripping about corruption when you publicly despise anyone who even criticizes the too-close relationship our government has with big business.
