How about some examples of this “socialism” stuff y’all are afraid of?

Cons seem to love tagging everything they don’t like as “socialism “ . The word has lost all meaning .

How about some real life examples of American socialism? And how it’s hurt us .

I’ll give you an example : US socialism going waaaay back to the 1800s . When the gov purchased and then opened up the west and gave away land to Americans.
Well lets see do we have Americans leaving Americas capitalist society to go to socialist nations .hummm odd its really not a issue is it. I suggeat you move to Venezuela or Cuba try it out for a few months
You picked 2 extreme communist countries...why cant you pick, denmark, sweden, Switzerland. Canada,.Qatar and a long lost of countries where governments take care of their citizens and dont jand all their budget to defense contractors..

The New Deal was certainly socialist.
It went well beyond the New Deal

After Pearl Harbor, the Government took control of our industrial production, decided who built what, controlled all critical resources and where workers were allocated.

Socialism won WWII
Bullshit. War socialism only harmed our ability to prosecute the war. What it did do is hide the cost of the war. Otherwise the taxpayers would have revolted.

If we relied on capitalism to fight WWII, we would have lost

Companies deciding whether or not they would produce war goods, critical supplies going to the highest bidder, workers coming and going as they pleased, companies funding their own R&D
It's funny to watch conservative republicans not know how socialistic Total War was. Businesses got told by the government what they were manufacture for the war effort. No choices there.
the manufacturer was a private company paid by the government. that isn't socialist at all. My company makes product for the government and we get paid for it. hmmmm not clear your point asswipe.

The problem is that any program set up, run and funded by the government to benefit society, is "socialism", not the definition being used by American conservatives. Those programs give their citizens a tremendous amount of freedom to plan and organize our lives.

I have lived my life with the full knowledge and understanding that my basic medical care is a given. Whether I am working full time, unemployed or retired, I never in my life have had to worry about having enough money to take care of my medical needs. I don't have to save up for treatments or worry about co-pays, these things are a given. That, in and of itself, is freedom you don't have. I don't have to worry about what happens to my health care coverage if I change jobs, or if I'm unemployed for any length of time. Health care is my right.

Imagine if you had that freedom.

How’s Venezuela socialism doing?

Bad . For many reasons . Mainly corruption.

How’s UAE socialism doing ?

American socialism programs seem to be doing great .

UAE is a capitalist nation.
Loooool....ignorance these trump supporters display everyday is baffling.

Like I said . They don’t know what the word means . It’s just an insult to them: “This pizza has anchovies , its socialist !”

Fair to say. But neither do most of the supporters of socialism. Just ask them. You won't get a straight answer.

I get it. You don't want to Keep America Great. You want it to flounder like socialist Venezuela. Who is trying to get out of socialism.

No need to "imagine" anything. I earn my way, pay my premiums, co-pays and coinsurance. Imagine my freedom of not needing a f*cking thing from you.

The current incarnation of the Right doesn't seem to be able to distinguish a difference between elements of socialism and total socialism. I don't know why. I definitely have my guesses, though.
No one said we had total socialism, shit for brains.
Sure, which is why you folks are constantly screaming about Venezuela and Cuba.

Talk radio has robbed you of your capacity for nuance, assuming you ever had it to begin with.
.
Over Thirty million Russians died over collectivism in the 1930's in the Soviet Union. With all of our flaws, government has no soul when agendas become a tsunami. People believed in our nation during the depression that Sovit successes were making the rich. They did not know of the exterminations of people. This led to McCarthy. Now we embryonic Lenin Mensheviks in the Progressive Socialist Party that will lead to Bolsheviks.
In the 1930s we enacted socialist policies to keep people from starving

What we do here is nothing like what’s going on in Venezuela.

Unless you’d like to provide an example . Cause I’m not really seeing any .

Nope. In the 1930s we enacted more socialist policies because prior socialist policies (Federal Reserve and the 16th Amendment) prolonged a socialist fueled Depression. Then another big socialist agenda item was added to ensure a Permanent War Time economy that feeds so many rent seekers. Wilson was able to jack up income tax rates and government spending in WWI. Rates and spending were lowered in the 1920s, and the economy boomed until the Fed ruined it. Then the Progs went for more control as their agenda is not a healthy economy but rather More Power.

I think the key aspect of socialism that I'm afraid of is the blind adherence to democracy as a universal good.

Gee I have all of that and I'm not paying anybody out of my pocket. If you lose your job, and can't make your payments, you're screwed.

You did NOTHING in this life on your own, unless you live on an island and have never seen another human being.

You have had parents, relatives, friends, teachers and bosses who have taught you, encouraged you, and trained you to be of use to society. If you are successful, it is not only a credit to you, but a credit to the system which gave you the tools to succeed, and the infrastructure to make it happen.

Have some gratitude because without them, you wouldn't know your ass from a hole in the ground.

For fuck's sake, would you just look up Cuba, Venezuela and other socialist countries and understand what socialism did to them? Not difficult unless you choose to keep your head up your butt and pretend that socialist policies don't do more harm than good.

Do you see people flocking to socialist countries? Hell, no. They are trying to leave them. Most come to America, the non-socialist country that will never sell out to socialists. Why do they come here? Because our poor people live better than most people in commie and socialist countries.

Our biggest socialist policy is the welfare state. And, yes, it has hurt more than it helped. When you subsidize people on a permanent basis, the problem doesn't go away and instead it gets worse. Poverty is worse because more depend solely on government rather than themselves. And they are so uneducated about how things work that so many still don't realize that they would be much further ahead if they stop listening to nanny government. Government has replaced fathers in many families. Kids aren't growing up to be functional adults. We have generations on welfare and the mentality of being entitled to things rather than learning to earn your way means the problem will continue to escalate. Government won't break the cycle of dependence. Our schools aren't even trying to teach students to be independent. They are teaching them that socialism is best, which means they all grow up feeling entitled and expecting others to provide for them.

This is socialism. It is unsustainable.
