Instead, the liberal politically correct Democrats who have followed the Daleys now refuse to punish repeat violent lawbreakers. The Democrats have become George Soros Social Justice Warriors and the newspapers reflect the progressive view.
They shrink the size of the jail population, and congratulate themselves by refusing to punish violent lawlessness, enabling and promoting social justice judges, while releasing violent predators, all the while playing race politics to isolate the good and the lawful, and so guarantee a surplus of lawlessness and anarchy.

When someone screws up in the justice system, the goal shouldn’t be to use it as ammunition against a political team. The goal should be to look at the system that allowed it, because that’s how you stop it from happening again.

If the only time we care about fixing policies is when we can blame the other side, we never fix anything. We just trade outrage. A functional society admits that mistakes, even deadly ones, can come from anywhere, and then works together to tighten the weak spots. Accountability shouldn’t be a left vs right issue.

Our criminal justice system isn’t equipped to handle cases where those charged with such crimes are in dire need of serious mental health care. Plus, institutionalizing them in psychiatric facilities gets many of our so-called “progressives” all worked up. Many of them seem to equate it with incarceration.

Now, if this man needed a psychiatric evaluation and didn't get it, shame on that judge. On the other hand, if he was on his meds that day and she gave him home confinement for a minor offense, I'm just not seeing the problem.

Here's what you "Lock up the Darkies" types don't seem to get. We can't lock up everyone. We lock up more people than any country in the world. Yet on top of the two million we have in custody, we have another 7 million on probation or parole, because we just don't have the jail space.

Here's the problem we have. We have to share our streets with mentally ill people like this because our system doesn't know what to do with them. We can't lock them up if they aren't immediately dangerous. So we put them on a hold, they take their meds, they seem rational, they get released, and they go whacky again.

I was in downtown Chicago last year to show my wife the Sears Tower (I refuse to call it the Willis Tower). Well, while we were down there, we encountered no fewer than four homeless people who were quite out of it. None of them dangerous, all of them kind of sad. (Especially the guy who walked down the street ranting at his own reflection in the windows.)

When someone has been convicted SEVENTY TWO TIMES, he belongs in jail for life. I’m a strong proponent of “three strikes laws” three violent felonies and you never breathe free air again. Career criminals, or the violent mentally ill have no business being allowed to be a part of out society.
