Hotel fights back after Donald Trump threatens to not pay

Vince needs to provide food and beverages dammit.

For beginners...the Bogeyman says, "Sammiches" on the close and then the Mini Bogeyman appears!

Did you read the other article? He's been stiffing people on the bill for over 30 years

Trump may be a bit more of an ass when it comes to paying subcontractors and vendors, but that has been the game in construction and real estate work before Trump, and will continue after him.

He's just more on the asshole side of the spectrum, but there are plenty of GC's and Owners that do the exact same thing.

Those other people aren't the ones running to be president claiming to care about the "little" people

Fair point, I just don't want people to think that he's the only jerk in the construction/real estate business.

I work as a Construction Manager for wastewater/water treatment plant projects, they PAY me to be an asshole. and residential/commercial construction is 10 times worse.
How are you an asshole? Do you have them withhold payment?

Since I work for a municipal agency as a consultant, it is usually the Auditors that chip away at the payment for contractors.

What happens in Residential/Commercial is the owner usually tries to chip away at the GC's profit margin, by fighting off part of the last payment. this usually trickles down to the subcontractors, who get hurt more because they work on smaller margins.

The workers don't get shafted, they already got paid, its the owners of the construction companies and their subs that get whammed, but usually not to the point of turning over a loss on the job.
All the article does is prove that Trump is a good businessman who doesn't tolerate incompetence.

Trump Once Cut Off Medical Care For Sick Infant To Spite the Parents

The Democrats should be running 3 months of nonstop testimonials from people trump has hired to do work and then not paid. That will destroy him with the middle class.

Well, I don't get it. Contractors have this thing called a contract. How does the water treatment plant and building owners try to get out of their end?

I've had it happen to me in residential, had to take the cvnt to small claims court but bigger dollars would surely be pursued.

Exactly the kind of low tactic they would do. But all Trump has to do is ask where the court judgment was if it were true.

Say your final invoice is for $110,000, and it is all profit. The owner will say, we will pay you $100,000, but not the $10,000, because X Y Z. now you have a choice, fight it, and have that $110,000 held up, or knuckle under, take your $100,000 and walk away.

How would they know what a companies profits are? Mine is my business. I'm not saying your scenario doesn't happen but if a business gets punked like that they deserve it.

Most owners/Managers can figure it out. It also depends on how much the GC/sub squeals at the stiffing. If the stiff cuts into the GC/Subs bottom line too much, the owner/Manager will give in and pay them.

Profits? No way in hell can they figure it out. They have no clue what the companies overhead is. Making contractors squeal? Sounds like a lot of corruption in your area. Any business that knows what they are doing will not be known as parlor boy.

If so they pad the bid knowing it will be knocked down. And probably have lunch together.

Bid padding is mostly a part of municipal work, and when a GC/sub bids on a job with a known tightwad.

Problem is it takes only 1 guy to not pad, and then everyone else starts cutting back.

If they underbid the job they lose out and nature will take its' course.

Only if they do it consistently, and only if they can't make it up with Change Orders.
