The political points aside the post is accurate. June does traditionally ad "summer" jobs and numbers are regularly revised, down more often than up. Unfortunately the idea that the majority of jobs being created are of the part time type seems to be fairly accurate as well.

Keep in mind orgs like the BLS are under the jurisdiction of the exec branch with the top people appointed by the exec. Having said that I believe their numbers are sincere as much as possible under their directions from the exec branch.

The fact remains that bureaucracies receive their marching orders from the exec branch and the methods which are used to calculate statistics are changed periodically. Again I don't particularly have a problem with BLS personnel, but if you think they are free to calculate statistics of their own volition I think you're kidding yourself.

It makes me think of how politicians use the GAO and CBO to calculate the effects of proposed legislation. What people don't realize is that all the criteria are supplied by the politician. "What will the outcome of my legislation be IF inflation remains x, the cost of resource y remains z". These groups are often just calculators using outside supplied criteria.

The most glaring example of changing methods is the inflation rate. The method of calculation has changed drastically over the years. What are the chances they are changed to make the rates less attractive to the electorate? Whether we like it or not bureaucracies are political entities and not taking their pronouncements with a grain of salt is foolish.

The original points of the end of the verizon strike. summer hiring and future adjustments(usually down) are all valid points.
Add to that calculating who is in the workforce calls for perhaps more than "grain" of salt.

Fact is, the Fed is not likely to have much effect on jobs. Interest rates are not the issue, have not been since the beginning of the presidency. The problem was lack of aggregate demand. Without an increase in that aggregate demand, nothing was going to move. The stimulus was aimed at that problem. So that set up a typical battle, with tools believing that the stimulus did no good, while the cbo and most economists believed it did a lot of good. But there is an old saying, which is that you can not push on a string. We were in the middle of a liquidity trap and lowering interest rates did very little. Did not hurt anything, but did not help much at all.
Relative to obama, we were loosing over 600,000 jobs per month when he took office. CBO and most economists said we were close to being in a depression. Only really ignorant people believed it was a good idea to let things go without trying to stimulate the economy. Like every single republican congressman. But then, they had met on the eve of the inauguration and decided to do vote down every single thing Obama did. So, they did not care about those unemployed. And they did indeed vote against every single effort obama made. And they did not bring any bills forward to help the situation.
So, we could believe you that no pres could help, or we could believe the cbo. And, me boy, my money is on the cbo.

As far as the stimulus, you must be reading different CBO reports. For 830 Bil the effects were not that great and were temporary. Many argue we should have spent more, I've yet to hear anyone even guess at how long and how much would have made a lasting impact on the overall economy.

4. Job openings doubled

Any statement that Obama is bad for business is difficult when we look at the republican administration that his administration replaced.

As I already stated, despite 0bamas best efforts, you can't keep the US Economy down for long. If McCain or Romney had won, that recovery would have happened within their first year. 0bama did his best to keep the economy down as long as possible.

Nearly all that growth was from the private sector as the public sector is the smallest in decades. The one issue I have with Obama is the reality that he has cut so much from infrastructure investment that it is hurting our country.

Obama has done a great job in the private sector and in creating massive amounts of wealth in his term as president. The loserterians would be hard pressed to do better no matter what...They'll probably end up turning our country into a third world shit hole and lose any leadership we have in science and r&d.
