The root of this to me is part of a few things.

Modern feminism went from "women should do what they want" to "women need to do what certain women think all women should do"

The denial of reality shown in the whole trans movement. Trying to promise something to people that can't actually happen leads to further mental issues.

the overall balkanization of people into groups and the fight of those groups to ride up the pity pole.

I might be generalizing, but this to me is the reason behind our issues today.
