The trump *administration has removed minimum staffing regs for nursing homes.

Nursing home organizations of course applauded the move as it will enhance their profitability.

Patient groups, on the other hand are a bit less pleased:

"We were very disappointed by CMS's announcement today," Sam Brooks, director of public policy for the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, a patient advocacy group, wrote in an email to MedPage Today. "Even though it claimed the rescission was in part due to congressional and judicial developments, it repeated the often-debunked lines from the nursing home industry that there are not enough staff and that rural facilities will be harmed. Both of these claims are not true."

"Most disheartening was that CMS offered no plan to address the staffing crisis in nursing homes," Brooks added. "Instead, it is returning to the status quo, which results ... in residents suffering and dying because nursing homes are not staffed adequately."

It's almost like they want the old folks to just go away.

HHS took this action after determining the final rule imposed by the Biden Administration disproportionately burdened facilities, especially those serving rural and Tribal communities, and jeopardized patient’s access to care.

he 2024 rule had established a federal requirement that nursing homes participating in Medicare and Medicaid provide residents with a minimum total of 3.48 hours of nursing care per day, including at least 0.55 hours from a registered nurse per resident per day, and 2.45 hours from a nurse aide per resident per day, along with requirements that each facility have a registered nurse onsite 24/7. These measures disproportionately burdened rural and underserved communities already grappling with critical health care workforce shortages.

Sounds like Biden was just looking out for his own personal needs.

A bogus rule, from the illegitimate Biden regime, which of course was designed to get illegals a job to be shitty at.

If you are putting your parents in a nursing home, then shame on you. Same thing for daycare. Disgusting.

So just how much say has HHS here??? ~S~

Yes lets fill a nursing home with people and under staff it? Not sure i understand this. I do believe nursing home staffs should get more pay and medicaid should puck up the tab.

Why should medicaid pick up the tab at all?

Why not just have people pay their own way if they want to go to a nursing home?

I didn't "put" my mom in a nursing home at all. She willingly went for a 30 day period so she could get rehab on her new hip without having to get a ride from home every day.

Made good sense, I visited her every 3rd day and two of my local siblings did the same. She was hardly abandoned.

Totally different thing. YOu know that's not what I am talking about.

So if one has to work full time and cant be home to take care of parents or kids, then what? Go broke? Bankrupt? You assume people just have hundreds of thousands of dollars laying around. You should be an advocate for people not having kids.

Hell, why not just leave old people out in the snow like the Vikings did.
