From the RCMP on down, the S.I.C are a national security threat to Canada AND America. This is well known now, in some cases in very granular and specific detail.

The world views Canada differently, and Ontario in particular is going to be a steep price in tariffs and distrust, regardless of any future trade deal.

Five years and still no transparency by the police. Does Canada share American values?

Jamie Jelinski feels a bit like David — and the Toronto police are his Goliath.

The trouble is, he's worried that this time Goliath might win.

Jelinski filed a freedom of information (FOI) request to Toronto police in June 2020 for records concerning the facial recognition technology Clearview AI after the police service admitted to using the controversial tool beginning in October 2019 and committed to stop using it in February of the following year.

Jelinski said he filed the request hoping to learn how Clearview AI is used in practice — all part of his research into visual identification techniques and technologies used by Canadian law enforcement. But nearly five years later, the visual culture scholar still hasn't received all of the responsive records, despite paying police more than $200 for the remaining 1,100 pages of emails last July.

The Canada section isn't the place to try again, and again and again, to air your personal issues you've created for yourself.

This goes well beyond me. You're too thick to understand.

The whole FOI thing is an absolute joke. I also filed an FOI request to the CSIS, just to see exactly what crime I committed that caused them to hound me down like this. And of course, I got a bunch of paper that was just incomprehensible mumbo jumbo that didn't really say anything meaningful.

They like to pass laws like this to give people the illusion that the government is working hard to be transparent, when the reality is that these laws and the things they promised, don't do anything at all. Same with having an ombudsman as oversight for an organization. These ombudsmen don't do anything at all. And if something is ever brought to their attention that they should care about, often times they don't, because they will always side with the agency that they are supposed to oversee. Since when do important, influential people side with the little guy?
