The reason poor people stay poor is because they keep doing the same things. No one is coming to save them. They have to save themselves.

And people like IM2 who blame “racism” feed into their victimhood and do nothing but engender resentment and a sense of hopelessness.

It’s really not difficult to move out of poverty.

1) Finish high school.

2) After high school, use a Pell Grant to get career- or trade-oriented training. Even a 6-month certificate would do it.

3) Use birth control religiously (if you have sex), and double up on methods to make sure of no failures.

That’s it.

My parents began in poverty and broke out of poverty. Feel free to make all the excuses why others couldn't do the same. Playing victim won't solve their problems.

My parents as well - and they were children of impoverished immigrants who arrived on these shores not even being able to speak the language. My parents (and their siblings) all worked out of poverty via motivation, good values, discipline, hard work, and intelligence.

Exactly. And they can do a tour in any branch of the military serving their country and and get a college degree on the GI bill. It's not that complicated.

Yes, no one said it is easy or that no sacrifice is required. But don't you believe they should try something different? Would you wait for someone to help you or would you help yourself?

I'm not uncaring or lacking in empathy. I believe it is more caring to tell them they need to help themselves because no one is coming to save them than it is to tell them they are victims and it's not their fault. What good does that serve?

It's a well entrenched scam. Nowadays we know that if someone is trying to sell you something and is presented as the very thing that will deliver you from all of your problems... it's suspicious. Black people should view the Democrat party as extremely suspicious, but there's generations of propaganda, misinformation, and now a large matriarchal leadership in the black community, which doesn't work.

The opportunities available to my father in the 1940s were also available to blacks in his neighborhood - including college. The smart, motivated, disciplined blacks were in the same college as the smart, motivated, disciplined whites.

Same with my mother’s neighborhood. The black kids she went to high school with also were in college with her. The smart, motivated, disciplined ones.

Same with my uncle. And same with my aunt.
