I'm sure that's what they tell themselves to justify both working. But you have to factor in all the costs associated with both parents working and weigh that against the advantages of mom or dad staying at home with the kids.

The problem with your story is that we were primarily Republicans until 1964. It was Repubicans that took our vote for granted. They took our vote so much for granted that they thought blacks would still vote Republican even if the Republican presidential nominee voted against the Civil Rights Act.
