We are fighting against each other, but the reality is that in many things we are alike and if we could key on those things we are alike, we could find a way to work together.

Then again, there are things we personally cannot accept from others, and if we can determine what those are, we can also come up with a plan to work on fixing those, or at least determine what is more important to our nation.

When it comes to our politicians however, I personally feel that they're really nothing I can do to influence them, so the most that I have done other than going on the record here and there is to provide financial support to those organizations making the biggest impact and/or having the most success. Most of them fight to protect the U.S. constitutional rights of the American people and/or fight to protect the civil rights and liberties of certain groups but their work generally covers everyone.

Ethics is really high on my list because a lot of the other attributes you gain automatically when a person or entity conducts itself ethically or has and enforces its own Rules of Ethics.

One adjustment to your post, it is very difficult to find people that have the same values, as all people have some negatives. The ability to accept "some" of the negatives (compromise) is therefore important. Having said that, some values cannot be compromised on, such as respect. Respect for the other person is a need for anything to happen between two people.
