Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth backed up his decision to return a Confederate monument to Arlington National Cemetery removed by “the woke lemmings” who have erased Confederate symbols from American culture.

The Reconciliation Monument, a memorial to the Confederacy, was removed from Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia in 2023.

Hegseth explained his decision to bring back the monument to Arlington during a Fox News appearance Thursday afternoon.

“Because we recognize our history, we don’t erase it. We don’t follow the woke lemmings off the cliff that want to tear down statues,” the secretary said.

Good. That's American history. Sadly the dems made it into a political/ethnic issue.

Whether you agree or disagree with the government in charge, the soldiers fought for their states.

Union or confederate they should be honored. And hopefully remembered so similar events won’t repeat themselves.

Putting monuments to the enemies of the nation in the national cemetery.

What's next? Statues of hitler?

They were forgiven by the people that defeated them. We have no right to change that over a century later.

The point of the civil war from the Union's side was to restore the Union, not wipe out the people fighting against the restoration of the Union, and not to wipe out their memory.

Part of the reunification process was to allow them to mourn their loss as they saw fit. Who are we to renege on that agreement?

You can make the argument it is glorifying the Confederacy, or you can simply say it is a historical monument that is indicative of another time and attitudes that do not correspond to those found today.

You don't need to freak out and demand it be melted for scrap, you can view it all objectively without having to attach your personal opinion/feelings to anything inscribed on it.

The only true case was that one memorial in New Orleans that was properly removed.
Did you read the inscription? What’s with describing confederate soldiers as heroes?

Again, the people that beat them let them mourn their loss as they saw fit to enable the country to heal. We have no standing to counter that.
We damn sure do have standing to counter that.

They aren’t heroes. Their cause wasn’t just.

A monument erected 50 years after the civil war isn’t about mourning.

:lol::lol::lol:

Recognize History?:rofl: Are you serious?

Trump has spent every living minute in office with his appointed goons, to ERASE all history on Trump and others... he doesn't like...

No, we don't.

50 years after is when many of the soldiers who fought in it were dying off, you dumb ****.
So you were mourning elderly dudes who survived the war? Jesus that’s stupid. Wanna bet how racist those “heroes” were?

We won. That means we get to tell them their cause wasn’t just. Because it wasn’t. That should be obvious even to hacks like you.

it was those elderly dudes mourning the friends they lost before they died as well.

The point of winning was to return them to the Union and make them all citizens again, with all the rights and privileges that entails.

Stop trying to apply 2025 morality onto 1860-1865.

The goal of the modern left is to tear down western civilization.

America is the leader of that, so they really hate US.

A monument to reconciliation was never a bad thing.
