Today's Democrats are defined by politicians like Pelosi who come from districts with constituencies that are prohibitively Leftist in orientation - typically 65-35 or worse. Other examples are Schumer, Nadler, and the so-called "Squad."

With such a voting "advantage" they have no fear of ever being voted out, except in the rare instances when someone even crazier than they are pops up in the Primary. So there are no limits on how extreme they can be, and they end up being spokespeople for their party on major issues.
