Star Wars fans have been complaining that Star Wars has been "ruined" since Return of the Jedi. They complained that the movie wasn't as good as The Empire Strikes Back. They complained that the Prequel Trilogy wasn't as good as the original trilogy. They complained about the Sequel Trilogy.

There's just no making those people happy.

It's like the people who bitch that Doctor Who and Star Trek are too "woke" now, when these shows always had liberal sensibilities.

Virtually every Star Wars fan I know all say the best movie was Empire Strikes Back. That was 45 years ago folks.
I remember the anticipation of seeing Return of the Jedi... and was like... meh. Underwhelmed.
And it just kept getting worse, yes Disney took over an already bad franchise and made it suck more. But it already sucked.
The only post original movies I thought was any good was Revenge of the Sith. And it had LOTS of problems. Namely Hayden Christenen is a LOUSY actor. And how does a 6'4" large build Darth Vader with black hair as depicted in Return of the Jedi, come from a short, skinny blonde headed man??
He was THE wrong actor for the part.

Are you arguing that the heroes have "plot armor", that's not just the case of Star Wars. That's nearly every hero in an action movie.

The Nazis never manage to kill Indiania Jones, either.
