Here's a documentary about it called Float Nation:

Joe Rogan is a huge proponent of sensory deprivation tanks, and he has one in his home (or maybe in his studio, I'm not sure).

Next time I go to L.A., I think I want to go to Float Lab and try one. I hear it's $40 for 2 hours, which isn't a bad deal.

I just immerse myself in the Taunting Arena and it does the trick every time.

But just think.....you'd be in water for 2 hours?????? That may not be a good thing, if ya think about it.

Has anyone here ever been in a sensory deprivation tank?
I haven't ever been in a sensory deprivation tank.

I suspect visiting the West Wing these days may well pass muster as a reasonable approximation of being in a sensory deprivation tank.

FWIW, you may want to solicit input on a forum/website that targets sensory deprivation fetishists if a relative layman's POV is what you seek. Otherwise, I suggest reaching out to a local hospital or research university for rigorously considered input. Also, you may find what you want among the papers available via Google Scholar.
