Um, okay, about that.

Most of what the government spends is non-discretionary.

Out of a 7 trillion dollar budget

1 trillion is defense
1.1 Trillion is Medicare
1.7 Trillion is Social Security
1 trillion is the interest on the National Debt.
600 Billion is Medicaid
500 Billion is VA spending

So these five programs alone are 5.9 TRILLION of the 7 trillion, and are really impossible to touch politically. That just leaves the 1.1 Trillion we spend on everything else. Roads, Law Enforcement, Education, Public Safety, etc.

Even if you cut all of that 1.1 trillion, the fact is, the spending on the other things are expected to increase as the country gets older.

What I remember was DOGE fired a bunch of people, and the government had to hire most of them back when stuff wasn't getting done. Which is why Elon went back to making shitty cars and shitty rockets.
