The greatest play in baseball took place 42 years ago today; April 25, 1976.
Rick Monday, then with the Chicago Cubs, snatched an American Flag away from two piece of shit scumbags who were trying to set fire to it in left field. Instead of bowling them over (which he considered doing) he ran up, bent down, and saved the Flag.
Monday was honored by the Dodgers that day, by both a message on the scoreboard ("Rick Monday, you made a great play!") and by presenting the flag to him after the game.
It was actually selected as one of the top 100 moments in baseball history by Major League Baseball. Monday still has that flag today...
