Oxfam warns of widening inequality gap, days ahead of Davos economic summit in Switzerland

Billionaires and politicians gathering in Switzerland this week will come under pressure to tackle rising inequality after a study found that – on current trends – by next year, 1% of the world’s population will own more wealth than the other 99%.

If we'd only given capitalism a shot, things might be different. But central banks and banking cartels in conjunction with run away Statism was bound for this destination.

Time to tax the wealthy and lower the taxes for the middle class. This is one thing that Obama is right about.
Aaaaahh... no.

This is the product of the rich owning governments. You can thank lobbyists and corrupt elected officials. This is what happens when the rich have the deck stacked all in their favor.

Taxes won't, can't and never will fix this problem.

Reduce government?

Yeah, that might happen....
Even if that was plausible, I don't think that would help either.

Lobbying is the number one culprit. So long as the rich have money to invest, there'll always be corrupt politicians willing to sell their values.

It could help if we went back and ratified the commerce clause to make sure the entirely of government was unable to participate in commerce of any kind and was instead relegated to only an arbitrator of contractual disputes of fraud.

But that wont happen. Neither will the govt. be cut by 50%. Nor will this race to the bottom end in a pot of gold....

at no time does someone getting more than you mean you have less or are worth less.

be happy with what you have, strive for more, if you want. But crying b/c someone has more cookies than they can ever eat is just non-sense

That's also a good suggestion, however I do agree that the probability of that happening is about as likely as any one of us winning the Powerball.

So long as the fox is guarding the hen house, we're... basically... screwed.

The entire unholy alliance between the rich and their money and greedy, corrupt government will have to implode on it's own.

It's not about someone having more. It's about the corrupt way the super rich went about getting their money, and how they keep making money, and the poor and middle class just have to kiss their ass because they can't compete in this super rich game of "buy your own politician."

you are assuming they are all criminals and that most of us kiss their asses

I can assure you that neither is true

No, I'm not assuming they're all criminals. Criminals break the law. The super rich just buy a politician, or three or four, and have the politicians make laws that benefit them making more money. How can a person living on poverty do that? How can a middle class family do that? They can't. It's unfair, and it's not right. People on social security and disability get a 1.7% raise. The CEO for the company that owns a politician or two gets a 15% raise. It stinks.

That's what lobbying is, and it should be illegal. It's LEGAL government FOR SALE, but better described, BRIBING. I think the very fact that lobbying is legal is all the proof one needs that big money owns governments, and that unholy union is all about the rich getting richer, as well as those in government.

And I can assure you, that's exactly what's happening.

In the conflict between the middle class vs the 1 percent, the 1 percent is winning.

its not a conflict you perfect liberal idiot! If you dont want them to have so much wealth stop buying their products! Its a free world. We don't need your violent liberal tactics that undoubtedly consist of stealing from the top1% at the point of a gun!!

I just had a thought. I bet these numbers include all the countries like north Korea mexico India China russia etc where the gap between the rich and poor is really wide.

I bet if you look you'll see the smallest gaps will be in countries we would call socialist. Unregulated capitalism with a crony government is what we have. So capitalism is just another ism that can be corrupted.

Things not so bad in Canada Germany Australia etc.

too stupid there are no socialist countries left after USSR and Red China slowly starved 120 million to death. There is Cuba though where they have great equality and great poverty. Do you know why they have no boats or toilet paper there?

Those who look closely understand that here in America it is not the 1% at the top stealing the icing off the cake, but the much smaller .1% or .01% that are skewing the numbers and overreaching. I contend the biggest problem with America is the massive growth in crony capitalism and corruption in Washington.

Much of this can be attributed to theability of those in control "changing the rules" and positioning themselves to benefit at every corner. In our busy and complex world we have found it impossible to watch all the moving parts. More on how this incestuous mess leads to collapse in the article below.
