Growing number of 2020 Democrats supporting 'Green New Deal'

A growing number of Democrats considering a presidential bid have signaled support for the sweeping "Green New Deal" pushed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other liberal lawmakers, underscoring how the 2020 field is being pulled further left by the influential progressive wing.

An analysis by Fox News shows at least eight potential Democratic candidates have voiced support for or touted aspects of the proposal, which amounts to a drastic overhaul of the U.S. economy and government benefit system.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., 37, who says he is looking at a 2020 presidential run, told Fox News he was “excited” to support the proposal and be a part of the process.

“When it comes to climate change, we need to advance policies that don’t ask Americans to choose between their jobs and clean air and water,” Swalwell told Fox News this week. “We can do that by greening the grid with investments in renewable energy and a wage and skills guarantee for any displaced worker.”

He added: “It’s time to go big on this issue with bold solutions. I welcome a Green New Deal and am excited to offer additional ideas to create meaningful jobs and address the crisis of climate change.”

Higher-profile potential candidates ranging from Sen. Elizabeth Warren to Sen. Cory Booker also have voiced support.

Fox News reached out to nearly two-dozen Democrats seen as potential 2020 candidates to ask about their position on the Green New Deal. Some voiced support for the plan or pointed Fox News to prior statements of support, though most did not respond to the requests for comment or declined to comment -- leaving open the possibility that more potential candidates could lend their support in the coming weeks.

The expansive Green New Deal proposal has floated in Democratic circles for years but was given new life by the Sunrise Movement and liberal lawmakers like Ocasio-Cortez. The package would focus on income inequality and climate change, combining ideas incorporated in former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signature New Deal, and modern ideas like renewable energy and resource efficiency.

There's never a shortage of idiots among the Democrats.

No surprise. Many Dem’s pocketbooks are hurting not receiving all that funny cash from the climate change scam.

Don't let it happen.

Ontario is NOT bankrupt or even close to it. The part of the province where I live has seen enormous economic benefits from the Green Energy programs.

Farmers who rent land for windmills are getting $60,000 per year per windmill, so a 100 acre farm with 3 windmills will get $180,000 per year in land rental for those 15 acres, ensuring income and a level of financial stability, cash crop farmers don't normally see, income not subject to the fluctuations of weather, price, and yield.

Yes, we're currently overpaying for the electricity generated, for now. But when those initial contracts expire, the price paid will be reduced. The infrastructure is now in place. Once we start paying market prices for the power generated, we will have some of the cheapest power on the planet, and instead of all of the income going into the coffers of the corporate owners of the wind and solar generating equipment, a substantial portion of the income will still be benefitting the farmers and small land owners who lease 5 acre parcels to the windmills' owners.

From your gov’ts report-

After 15 years of waste and mismanagement under the previous government, Ontario’s Government for the People is restoring trust, transparency and accountability in the Province’s finances. To provide a clear picture of Ontario’s books, the government established an Independent Financial Commission of Inquiry (the Commission) and launched a line-by-line review of government spending.

The 2018–19 deficit is now projected at $14.5 billion in the 2018 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review. That is $0.5 billion less than the $15 billion deficit reported by the Commission. The Province has saved $3.2 billion or about two per cent in program expenses by reducing spending — while not reducing front-line services. At the same time, measures taken by the government, such as cancelling the cap-and-trade carbon tax, have resulted in significant savings, keeping almost $2.7 billion in the pockets of people and business.

Seems they canceled cap and trade...

And you think you’ll get a reduction when paid up? No, they’ll find need to keep it higher for maintenance needs, or ‘newer and greater things’. Lol

Just what the country needs. More green bullshit. The same bullshit Obama pushed that cost we the tax payer billions.

Only idiots would back that shit that AOC is pushing. What idiots they are.

Callous conservatives also support pollution, since it is profitable. Responsible Pols at the local and state levels are already working to protect us and our coastal regions from a rising Ocean and the impact pollution has on our air, water and soil.

The Green New Deal is dead on arrival. Americans won't support it when they see how much it's going to cost them.

Yes, but that's common sense. I have no faith that this is the case. There are many positioning themselves for a Presidential run and they believe it goes through the Millennials, many who have embraced socialism.

I am telling you, you are playing a game of hope, if you believe they haven't gone much further left than in the past.

Just look at the past votes for security and a wall vs their position now. Even politically, it was viable for them, but they are afraid of the up and coming Millenials.

The Green and renewable energy movement is inevitable. Denial of that fact isn't going to make it go away, no matter what Nero tweets or says. Those who make the argument $$$ billions of dollars are wasted, who mocked Solyndra and continue to deny that Climate Change has zero to do with human activity are fools.

There is no man made climate change. We are but a pinprick. To think we are shows how arrogant that man is.

Green Policies in Spain are a Total Failure

But today’s leaked document reveals that even the socialist Spanish government now acknowledges the ruinous effects of green economic policy.

Unsurprisingly for a governmental take on a flagship program, the report takes pains to minimize the extent of the economic harm. Yet despite the soft-pedaling, the document reveals exactly why electricity rates “necessarily skyrocketed” in Spain, as did the public debt needed to underwrite the disaster. This internal assessment preceded the Zapatero administration’s recent acknowledgement that the “green economy” stunt must be abandoned, lest the experiment risk Spain becoming Greece.

Gotta laugh at your stupidity.

Back in 1816 they had real climate change. No carbon footprint back them. So man had nothing to do with it.

Its snowed in July and there was no summer. People couldn't plant crops and many starved or froze to death.

Those idiots should take a good long hard look at what happened in Spain when it went totally green.

Gotta have a couple working brain cells to figure it out though so. Never mind.

Everything they do is disastrous. Everything they propose to do is even more disastrous.
