Div.III college losing so badly they just threw in the towel and canceled the rest of their season. Really not the lesson football is supposed to impart.

They started the season with a 39 man roster. 11 are out with injuries. At some point you weigh the cost against the potential gain. Losing 28% of your players to injury, with no hope of winning, might be that point.

Not so much. Football programs are expensive. The travel expenses make it even worse. Add in the medical care and physical therapy for 11 injured players, and you have a money pit. The school officials decided to cut their loses.

They had one field goal in 3 games. And the opposition scored a combined 114 points in 3 games.

That post is also a sad commentary on modern society.

Is this HONEST Division III? No scholarships? Actual students playing football for the fun of it?

If so, cancellation seems like the right thing to do.

What would be the point of going out and getting your brains pounded in every Saturday?

I’m not a bit surprised you don’t understand.

Unfortunately, I do understand.

Colleges and universities in the U.S. have been infected with a cancer: interscholastic athletics. They waste untold time and effort into the pursuit of trivial competitions that are merely a platform to extend adolescence indefinitely.

The mission of these institutions is supposed to be "education," but they focus on playing games, they award thousands of "scholarships" to people whose primary interest is avoiding adulthood. They create bullshit courses and majors to accommodate "students" who have no business on any college campus in anything other than a janitor's uniform.

This doesn't happen in the rest of the world. European universities do not have football/soccer teams, much less, crew, lacrosse, hockey, track & field, or bass-kit-bawl. Scholarships for CHEERLEADERS?

How do they survive? It is a wonder.

Schools like this shouldn’t even have football teams. University of Michigan football actually is a money maker and lowers students tuition but schools like the one unkotare went to don’t make money on their football programs and it ends up costing students to have a football team, which no one goes to.
