He brought home a good paycheck and was able to raise five kids in a middle class lifestyle. He even owned vacationproperty in Wisconsin.. And yes, when he got sick because the lying shitstains on Wall Street told him that Asbestos was safe, his union medical plan not only took care of him, but my mom for the rest of her life.

The Germans and Japanese have stronger unions than we do. They have single payer health care. You see, this funny thing happened. The guys who rebuilt America after the Great Depression went to Germany and Japan and rebuilt them, but they didn't have to deal with Republican assholes... so they were able to do a better job.

The Germans and Japanese beat us at our own game.

While the Germans and Japanese invested in Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing, the US companies were paying their executives higher salaries to produce shit like the Pinto, the Chevette and the Gremlin.

So guys like my Dad would never buy a Toyota or because they were still pissed off about Pearl Harbor watched their kids buy them because they were reliable and the Pinto wasn't.

The Pinto is a great case study of how the GREED of the One percent destroyed the industry. The Pinto had a defect. The defect could have been corrected with a national recall and a $11.00 repair. The bean-counters at Ford decided it would be cheaper to pay off the families of people who burned to death in the "Barbecue that Seats Four" than it would to recall millions of units, do the right thing and fix them.

When all was said and done, Ford lost market share because of this kind of thinking.

I do find it amusing you think that a Working Guy in a union is "unaffordable", but a CEO making a seven figure salary, we can totally afford that, even if his company fails! (Like the CEO of GM, who was paid $12,000,000 when he ran his company into the ground and the mean old government had to bail it out.
