Bad news keeps flowing for the icy landscapes of the world.
Rising temperatures are melting ice and sending it to the ocean, a process that is pushing sea levels higher and altering the landscape at both poles. The latest news comes from Greenland, where researchers have used high-tech satellite and GPS measurements to see how much mass the ice sheet is losing.

Their results, published this week in Science Advances, indicate that it’s melting faster than previous estimates, particularly in areas where the ice sheet comes in direct contact with the ocean. It’s a troubling finding for the future of coastal areas around the world.
The Greenland ice sheet contains enough water that, if melted, would raise sea levels up to 23 feet. Rising temperatures have already eaten away at it, and Greenland’s ice sheet is responsible for about 30 percent of the observed foot of sea level rise since the start of the 20th century. While the rest of the ice sheet isn’t going to disappear overnight, it’s fate is intimately tied to the fate of communities along the coast.

“Greenland is one of the more pronounced contributors to sea level rise,” Michael Willis, a remote sensing expert at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences and co-author of the study, said. “In order to know how Greenland’s ice may change in the future, we need to focus on the areas where the changes have occurred over both short and long time periods.”

Florida, LA and the gulf coast better start caring or they'll be under water.

As far as I am concern sea level rise is the most concerning aspect of global warming...Simply because so many people can lose everything and global trade relies on our ability to load and unload stuff onto ships to a large extent.

Just more proof that scientists fuck everything up.
had it not been for the bright ideas of the scientists, we would not have had global wariming, or water pollution, or wars, or any of that.
The earth would have been much better off if we were still looking at the stars with wonder.
DeFund science now before its too late.

Nutz,

Well, sometimes we do make mistakes, but we have corrected a lot of them in the past. I see no reason why we shouldn't strive for better. Why not build nuclear plants, solar farms and wind farms for a cleaner tomorrow?

I support science 100% and the more we know the better off we're.

Guess you are unaware that it is geothermal activity causing the melting and not climate change...what do you suggest that we do about the magma that is causing the melting?

Should we maybe assume that was mildly tongue-in-cheek?

perhaps, But think about it, it is basically true.
without scientists throughout the ages, we would still be living like the cave man did.

And you'd find that preferable? Consider the cave man's medical technology and average lifespan.

From the study on which your article is based.

Nonetheless, as mentioned, the NAO can explain about three-quarters of the surface elevation changes, leaving us to speculate on other factors. A modeling study (30) of the Greenland Ice Sheet mass balance under greenhouse global warming has shown that temperature increases up to 2.7°C lead to positive mass-balance changes at high elevations (due to accumulation) and negative at low elevations (due to runoff exceeding accumulation), consistent with our findings, which implies that perhaps a quarter of the growth may be caused by global warming in Greenland (31) in our observation period. Furthermore, the observed elevation change implies that ice-sheet growth in the interior of Greenland may partly offset the freshwater flow of the retreating subpolar glaciers needed to explain the freshening rate of the world ocean, which can be explained almost entirely by Arctic sea-ice melt (32).

Great news! Most weather related deaths are due to cold, millions of lives will be saved' and we can start farming Greenland soon.

Good. When your Greenland farms start producing (which might take a while as there'd be no soil), you can use it to feed the hundreds of millions of people turned into homeless refugees by 20-30 feet of sea water.

The Vikings farmed on the southern tip of Greenland for hundreds of years, but were forced to stop in the 1400s when the land they farmed ceased to thaw during summer and then got covered with the ice that is there today... thickening every year.
