This was a form of socialized eugenics. Thing is, it might have worked, maybe even been a good thing in the long run. Technically, a socialized nation like Greenland could argue the case that limiting population to a good fit for the available resources, etc., is both a necessary and good thing in a place like Greenland, and thus by right, as a subject of Greenland, it is your responsibility to obey and participate.

We already have a space base in Greenland, and have had mutual defense agreements ever since the Cold War.

There is no need to take over Greenland. We can just work with them to re-up some of those old agreements.
