Govt agencies told to prepare for mass firings in case of govt shutdown

2025. Your team controls the House, Senate, SCOTUS, and President bro, AND YOU CAN"T EVEN KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OPEN???
It will remain open regardless - with essential workers.

And in reality, all we should have are essential workers. In private industry, non-essential workers are laid off.

I do just fine being non-essential.

What a lot of people don't realize is that if you are deemed nonessential during a shutdown your job is merely on hold. you don't really even have a job.

If a RIF is declared during a shutdown you can be told to come get your shit (or go turn it in) and you are gone.

It happened once during a shutdown when the wife was working at FEMA....They got shed of a lot of dead weight at FEMA HQ in DC and shut some "temporary" offices (that had been handling Katrina and Sandy forever) down permanently.

There was a long shutdown (maybe Trump's first term?) and the wife was just a few days away from being able to collect unemployment before it ended.

The other thing is that these shutdowns are ADDITIONAL paid vacation for employees. They get all the back pay.

15th post
Even before COVID, govt workers were at the pool half the day, clogging up the aisles at Trader Joe’s, at the movie lines, running personal errands, some even at the golf course, and SOME even going to beach and ski vacations - all on government time.
link?

How would you know?
That's her opinion, but I wanted to know how she knows all these people were at swimming pools and the health food stores and even--those vacations! Did she follow all these people around like a reporter?

If memory serves the "long one" hit during the Thanksgiving holiday....It was great! ;)
My friends who worked for the government loved it. They were hoping for more paid vacation and were disappointed that they had to go back to work and actually EARN their paychecks!
