[ This is part of a piece that I wrote on 9/8/2005, 9 1/2 years ago. It kind of points to the thinking and reasoning of our elected officials. I did have fun with it back then. ]

Attitude Is Everything

ā€œA national health care programā€ – We believe that the private sector can do a much better job providing health care. We’ve looked into ways that your government could provide coverage for every American, but, so far nothing has been put on the table. We may get around to looking at it again one day to see if it can be done.

ā€œTaxesā€ – We think Americans are over taxed. But, where else would the money come from to fund PORK? And, by the way, we put every dollar to work for you, the American citizen.

ā€œThe national debtā€ – Your government has to operate. When we need money, we borrow. This money has to be paid back at some point, but, at this time, we don’t see any way to do that.

ā€œA huge trade deficitā€ – It’s very important that we ensure that our trading partners provide jobs for their people, encourage business growth, stabilize their economies, and get very wealthy. After all, they live on this planet too.

ā€œJobsā€ – We’ve seen a steady growth in the number of new jobs over the past four years. The number of lay-offs, corporate bankruptcies, downsizing, plant closures, and those that have given up on looking for work are very misleading.

ā€œIllegal drugsā€ – We’re trying to get a handle on that now. With the new avenues and means for them to enter the US, it doesn't look too promising right now. CAFTA has opened up a new avenue for them to cross our borders, but we’re working on the problem.

ā€œThe space programā€ – It’s very important to know whether or not Mars ever had water. We’ve got to know we’ve got to know we’ve just got to know.

ā€œNormalized relations with Chinaā€ – Our two governments must work together to stabilize that part of the world. China will keep a close watch on North Korea for us, and we need eyes in that region.

ā€œKeeping Iran from developing WMD’sā€ – We must ensure the new Iraqi government can’t get their hands on weapons that can be used against us once Iraq has had enough of US control in their country. After all, we’ve made sure that their country is in near ruin, why would they not be a little angry.
